Asking if we were still cleaning. She’s an 80 something year old with a husband older than she is. I’ve worked for them for years. Her husband is undergoing cancer treatments which have him immunocompromised. After we got through discussing why she didn’t really need us in her house right now, she said she’d discuss it with her husband and let me know. She then told me she really wanted me to do the work; not Brady.
I was shocked, because it’s normally the opposite. She said he did a good job, but she was more comfortable with me. I got to thinking about why this could be and it hit me. They’re both very serious, almost rude people. They look and act like that old farm couple with the pitchfork in that iconic old photo. Completely humorless.
Brady is happy. He talks to the customers and they all love him ... except this old lady. She wants me because I don’t talk, don’t care if she likes me... I just do the cleaning and leave. She likes that.
She’s is an odd duck.

One of the things that I respect most about you is that you are entirely self aware Marty.

I am sure Brady is just as happy not to have his soul drained into the black hole of her nature.

American Gothic is a painting not a photo. (even an Aussie knew that.)

Don't you find a lot of customers like it when you leave?
