WELL............Here is why you BOTHER.... 
My son works out everyday at a local gym.
Because they work with HEAVY free-weights...They had to work out on the carpet last week.
The gym was using most of the matts for an arobics class.. He devoloped a bad rash across
his back and calves of his legs...
He went to the Doctor & it is F@CKING "MRSA"..
The doctor says he was infected from the CARPET at gym.... :shock:
THE CARPETS WERE "ENCAPPED" 2 WEEKS AGO... :roll:
You guys advertize.."CARPET CLEANING".....So why don't you CLEAN something.... :idea:
The docter said that MOST....Viruses & Bacteria CANNOT surive TEMPS over 150 degrees. :!:

Are you saying that if the carpet was instead HWE 2 weeks previously, then it would have been free of "MRSA" on the day your boy decided it was a good idea to come into direct bodily contact with a rug in a public gym?

Harper, I have always thought that myself about all the chemicals they put in the carpet w/o rinsing. So, virtually no matter what is in these chemicals, encapulation, color brighteners…..could the chemicals alone cause illness, let alone kill the bacteria embedded in the carpets in the facilities your speaking of? For god sakes, 130° temperature kills the aids virus, do any of these bonnet cleaning chemicals kill any kind of bacteria???

Harper, it shouldn't take stories like this to get our industry's head out of its arsk. But unfortunatley the lack of respect of carpet cleaning and the eternal drive for keeping as much of the almighty buck in peoples own pocket have created unrealistic price points forcing more and more cleaners to stay competitve with methods that simply are not suitable for the situation. The problem here is not only the cleaner but the facility as well. They want to go as cheap as they can and cheap will purchase extremely wet carpet or "clean looking" carpet full of germs, bacteria, and fungus waiting to cause issues like has occured to your son or like that which happened to my Dad earlier this year.
My question would be what does it take to get through to people, cleaners and facility managment alike that certain services can not be skimped and the health of facilities including flooring is just as important as wiping down the work out benches, or sanitizing the countertops. Does it require a full blown lisence and if so how can we trust a government to promote safe and fair standards after we can clearly see how ignorant industry standards can become in such programs as the SOA.
Maybe it will take regulations sanctioned by the EPA or the Department of Health. But until that day comes, its up to the individual cleaner to take personal responcilibity for the type of service they provide. Perhaps cleaning in areas of health considerations should include testing in our service to verfiy that we are santizing and removing the unwanted health contamination.

I was stuck in hospital for six months with MRSA ( Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or, if you prefer, Golden Staph ).
In hospitals, patients with open wounds, invasive devices, and weakened immune systems are at greater risk for infection than the general public.
The new CA-MRSA ( Community Acquired ), strains have rapidly become the most common cause of cultured skin infections among individuals seeking emergency medical care in urban areas of the United States.
These strains also commonly cause skin infections in athletes, prisoners and soldiers.
In my case, I had fractured my leg and crumbled my knee and went to hospital.
I had no open wounds at the time.
I was in hospital for two days before I was operated on, the put a Titanium plate in my right leg with fourteen screws to hold my Tibia together.
They also took bone from my hip and re-constructed my knee.
Ten days later, against my wishes and telling them I had an infection, they discharged me.
A week later, I was back in there with full blown MRSA.
Long story short, after six months and five operations, they were going to amputate my right leg.
I spat the dummy, tried to smack the "disease specialist" ( a twenty something year old kid ), and started treating the MRSA myself.
Two weeks later, they wheeled me into surgery and removed the plate, ( which I still have ) :wink: and kicked me out.
They could find NO TRACE OF MRSA in my system.
Over the years I have been in several gyms, never participating, , but have always noticed the signs, "Always place towel on seat/bench, etc; before operating this equipment".
If your relation has picked up some infection from the gym, maybe he should look at what he is doing to prevent this happening again, instead of blaming a carpet cleaner. :wink:
Maybe an infected person had also used the gym just prior to your relation, any previous cleaning would not have stopped any problems after the cleaning.

Take it from someone who USED to do a lot of commercial encapping. It doesn't work as well as HWE :shock:. I can't believe the difference since I've started using the truck mount on these places. You should have seen the water from places that I regularily encapped, disgusting.
Encapping should not be used as a stand alone method. It's for a "quick" freshen up, and that should be it.

But our EDUCATION...Should be conveyed to the cleint, the proper procedure used in
their particular facility..!!!!
Going to a gym is a personal choice...It is your responsibility clean everything you use. :!:
My son went straight to the gym & informed them of the problem..."They shut down &
cleaned the entire building." He was NOT threating any legal action...He just did not want
any one else to have the same problem. :!:

As someone who used spray-n-buff as a sole method for years (hackatosish) as a CD tech...I 100% agree with Harper. I knew NOTHING about carpet cleaning when I began with CD...I was told that this was a great method and had all the CD folks trying to convince me that it was the best. Yes it made carpets "look' cleaner...but i always questioned the "dirt swirling" appearance of the pad...i swear...after 10 seconds of cleaning a pad is dirty...i know of guys that would use 2 pads on 3,000 sq ft...UNREAL!!! I used to get bitched at because i would take the majority of pads for my work-day...i would use 1-2 pads per room (both sides) and still felt like i was just "slightly" improving the health of the home...visually looked much better, but i knew better.
That's why i found ICS years ago and wanted to learned about "HWE" and other methods...I would not have stayed with CD if they didn't come out with a TM...and it's crazy, when given the option to use a TM, 9/10 guys (HACKS) picked the bonnets...it's a LAZY issue to me and of course (as someone said above) about the $$$$ they save. These guys are cleaning 5-6 rooms in 40-45 minutes...HACKS!!!
OP/ENCAP/BONNETS are good on commercial grade carpet for a "clean" appearance, but there's NO WAY any LOGICAL person can say it's a better cleaning system than HWE. While no system will remove 100% of soil, HWE will out clean pads/cimax anyday...when used both methods together you get great results. just my .2

Lee alot of people these days are ripping out their carpet and putting in hard flooring.
That and the fact the carpet made today only lasts 5 years or so in homes.
So instead of cleaning they just wait for 5 years and replace.

If you believe that HWE sanitizes the carpet with the brief exposure to higher temperatures, you're a dangerous hack!
If you believe that MSRA will live on a dry surface for several weeks, you are inventing an unlikely fear. While MSRA "can" live for months, it takes "ideal" circumstances. It is more likely it was picked up recently, within a few hours. You should be careful where your dragging around your body parts in any public area, especially a gym! Even if a gym truly "sanitized" all surfaces, the second someone with MSRA touches it, it is no longer sanitized. Even if a gym paid for, and was treated with a sanitizer, one could only promise a reduction in germs, and it is no guarantee that it will stay that way for one second beyond the treatment.
While the temperatures of HWE will kill "some" germs, it will not kill them all. It takes time, complete exposure, and an effective temperature to kill them. HWE rarely, if ever, sustains all three requirements. Flushing away dirt and germs will more likely remove "more," but that is not sanitized carpet!
